Hi I am Bryan. The idea of this project came from my unexpected diagnosis of low-to-moderate scoliosis in March 2023 when I was getting an X-ray check up for an incidence of pneumothorax. Shocked by the news, I delved into scoliosis learned that as many as 3% of teenagers globally has scoliosis and not everyone detects it early due to the inconvenience of taking X-ray or lack of early detection equipment and programs (during covid), etc.  And the best time for correction is before end of puberty, so early detection is key. Sadly, I have already missed my best time for correction. I would need to rely on treatment to prevent the condition from getting worse.

Scoliosis AI is the initiative that I started to make sure my situation does not happen to other teenagers especially those from less resourceful community.

I co-founded Scoliosis AI with my brother after his scoliosis was discovered unexpectedly during an X-ray for a collapsed lung. Until then, our family had not noticed the curve in his spine. This made us question how many young people might be living with scoliosis without knowing it.

We started Scoliosis AI to make early screening more accessible, convenient, and non-invasive. By exploring AI-enabled screening through simple back images rather than radiation-based imaging, we hope to help students and families identify potential concerns earlier and seek appropriate professional care. We want to make sure that early detection does not depend on chance or luck.
